Choosing a car battery is an important moment that requires special attention not only to the brand of the product but also to its manufacturing date. Even when stored and not in use, the battery is subjected to the effects of chemical reactions, which can lead to a reduction in its service life and deterioration of its characteristics. We will examine in detail how to determine the date of manufacture and the country of production of Varta batteries.

The process of interpreting the manufacturing date of Varta batteries can be divided into several key categories. Each of them represents a unique decoding method that depends on the series and type of the battery.

The manufacturer utilizes a standardized marking system to indicate the manufacturing date of batteries belonging to these series. Let's take a closer look at how exactly this information can be decoded. First, we will identify which specific models of batteries are included in these series, so that you can easily identify the battery you are interested in (photo in the header):

  • Varta Black Dynamic;
  • Varta Blue Dynamic и Varta Blue Dynamic ASIA;
  • Varta Blue Dynamic EFB и Blue Dynamic ASIA EFB;
  • Varta Silver Dynamic;

(Please note that we are not referring to the Varta Silver Dynamic AGM series - we will consider a separate unique decoding system for them later.)

So, we have clarified the issue with the series, and if you have a battery belonging to one of these series in front of you, you will be able to find a code on its top cover that was applied by hot stamping during the manufacturing process. Decoding the manufacturing date
of batteries series
Varta Silver Dynamic AGM

These batteries operate on AGM technology, providing high efficiency and long service life. That's why the production process requires the use of special manufacturing facilities and adherence to high-quality standards. Therefore, the procedure for decoding the manufacturing date of these batteries follows strict rules, with the date information laser-engraved on the battery casing, which differs from similar data for other battery series.

In the photos below, you can see where exactly the engraving is located on the battery casing, which is applied only on the Varta Silver Dynamic AGM series:

Based on the provided photos, it can be concluded that there are two types of codes on Varta Silver Dynamic AGM batteries:

  • Two lines of engraving;
  • One line of engraving;

If you have a model with two lines of engraving, pay attention to the second line. We need the first 5 digits of this line, where the first two digits represent the year, the next two digits represent the week number of the year, and the fifth digit represents the day of the week.

If there is only one line of engraving on the battery, skip the first 7 digits, and the next 5 digits will represent the manufacturing date. Where the first two digits indicate the year, the next two indicate the week number, and the fifth digit indicates the day of the week.

These batteries are often installed in cars directly at the manufacturing plant during assembly. Typically, they have a black or, less commonly, white plastic casing. Decoding the manufacturing date of such batteries also has its own peculiarities. Let's see where the manufacturing date is applied in the following photos:

Here it's all quite straightforward: there are four digits indicated on the negative terminal. The first two of them denote the week number in the year, and the subsequent two digits indicate the year of production. Generally, since these batteries are installed in cars directly at the manufacturing plant during assembly, their production date coincides with the production date of the vehicle itself.

Determining the country
of manufacture of Varta battery

All original batteries, which are installed in cars directly at the manufacturing plant, and the Varta Silver Dynamic AGM series batteries are produced only in Hannover, Germany.

To determine the country of manufacture of batteries from other Varta battery series, you need to pay attention to the code engraved on the battery cover (discussed above). The first symbol of this code is a letter indicating the location of the manufacturing plant. The decoding of the alphabetical designations is as follows:

  • H — Hannover (Germany),
  • C — Česká Lípa (Czech Republic),
  • E — Burgos (Spain),
  • G — Guardamar (Spain),
  • F — Rouen (France),
  • S — Sarreguemines (France),
  • Z — Zwickau (Germany).

By paying attention to the first letter of the code, you can determine in which country your Varta battery was manufactured. This information can be useful for those who are interested in the origin of products and prefer goods manufactured in specific countries.
