How to Easily Understand the Markings from the Provided Table According to the Japanese Standard JIS D 5301:2019:
The first digits in the marking represent the performance indicator, which is calculated using a specific formula:
«First digits from the marking» = (√(CCA Cold Cranking Amps (Iᶜᶜᵉ) × RC Nominal Reserve Capacity (Cᵣₙ) ) / 2.8)
To obtain the final performance indicator for the battery, the manufacturer follows these steps:
The resulting number becomes the final performance indicator.
The next letter (from B to H) indicates the size of the battery case.
The size is determined by two parameters: the width and the height of the battery case. If the letter is absent and the dimensions belong to other categories (F–H), then a different classification applies.
The numbers following the letter represent the approximate length of the battery, rounded to the nearest centimeter.
The last character (a letter) denotes the specific placement of the negative terminal. If the code ends with the letter “L,” it indicates that the negative terminal is on the left; if it ends with “R,” the negative terminal is on the right. Note that models with “R” will be phased out in the future.
