Left-Hand Positive (LHP) Battery

A left-hand positive car battery — also called “Left-Hand Positive” — is designated as “1” in some technical documentation.

How to Identify an LHP Battery:

  • Turn the battery so the terminals face you.
  • Look for the positive terminal, marked with a "+" sign or covered by a red cap.
  • If this positive terminal is on the left side, you have a left-hand positive (LHP) battery.

Below is a schematic showing standard (direct) polarity and how to identify it correctly:

⚠️Important: Do not confuse battery polarity with automotive battery sizes (Asian or European). These two concepts are not related to determining a battery’s polarity.

In conclusion, please note that polarity refers to batteries used in passenger cars and minivans weighing up to 1.5 tons. They are categorized by their polarity type: right-hand positive battery or left-hand positive battery.
