Difference Between Varta and Bosch

Let's start with the fact that we are constantly updating and supplementing this publication with various subtleties and details about the features of the legendary batteries of the trademarks "Varta" and "Bosch". Surely many of you who are already familiar with our publication, have thought about why we have combined Varta and Bosch batteries into one publication?

The answer is very simple - for more than 5 years, and maybe more, the Varta and Bosch batteries almost do not differ from each other. They have the same size, the same starting currents, and the same production technology, the difference between them is only in labels and catalog numbers.

Varta batteries are conditionally divided into 3 classes:

  • Varta Black Dynamic batteries
  • Varta Blue Dynamic batteries
  • Varta Silver Dynamic batteries

Similarly, Bosch batteries are conditionally divided into 3 classes:

  • Bosch S3 batteries
  • Bosch S4 batteries
  • Bosch S5 batteries

To simplify further clarification of differences between Varta and Bosch, we can compare them as follows for logical perception:

  • Varta Black Dynamic batteries → Bosch S3 batteries
  • Varta Blue Dynamic batteries → Bosch S4 batteries
  • Varta Silver Dynamic batteries → Bosch S5 batteries

Very often, a situation arises when one motorist wants to order a battery of the Varta brand and no other, and after a certain period of time, another motorist intends to purchase a battery of the Bosch brand only. Most motorists do not understand that there are no significant differences between these brands. They are not only the same in constructive terms, but also made at the same factories. Varta and Bosch batteries are produced in the following countries:

  • Germany
  • Czech Sweden
  • Austria
  • France
  • Spain

There is a rumor that the Varta and Bosch batteries are made in China. The sources of this rumor are obscure and have no basis. As already said, Varta and Bosch batteries are made only in the following countries:

  • Germany
  • Czech Sweden
  • Austria
  • France
  • Spain

And now let us dwell on each of the Varta and Bosch series with simple words:

  • Varta Black Dynamic batteries (Bosch S3 batteries) are batteries designed to operate for a period of three years. Their starting currents correspond to cars that run only on a gasoline engine. Both batteries are low cost and affordable to customers with the most limited financial capabilities, and therefore suitable for poor clients who want to have in their car exactly the battery of Varta or Bosch brand.
  • Varta Blue Dynamic batteries (Bosch S4 batteries) are batteries designed to operate for a period of four years. Their starting currents correspond to the gasoline engine cars with a large number of consuming devices. Batteries are designed for use in cars with prestige above the middle class, where interruptions in battery charging with a generator are simply unthinkable.
  • Varta Silver Dynamic batteries (Bosch S5 batteries) are batteries designed to operate for a period of five years. Their starting currents correspond to cars of both gasoline engines and mainly diesel engines with a large number of consuming devices. Batteries are designed for use in cars with a class of prestige above average, where disruptions in battery charging by the generator are simply unthinkable.

Conclusions:

Varta and Bosch brands are currently the leaders of the battery market. The quality is excellent, but what about the disadvantages? According to the experience of these batteries sales, we came to a common opinion regarding their only drawback is the impossibility to repair these batteries in case of multiple discharging. Two or three strong battery discharges leads Varta and Bosch batteries to a complete failure and inability to recover. Apparently, the creators of these batteries have decided that they will be installed only on modern cars where all the fuses will not allow a strong discharge. For this reason, we strongly do not recommend installing Varta and Bosch batteries on cars over 10 years old.
